From its earliest years, The Contemplative Society has carried a strong audio ministry, first through cassette tapes of Cynthia Bourgeault’s talks and retreats in the late 1990s, and now through a continuing online audio store. Over time, this ministry has evolved from mailing out series like “The Contemplative Journey,” “From Healing to Holiness,” and “Essentials of Benedictine Spirituality” on tape, to carefully editing and releasing retreat recordings such as “In the Wake of St. Brendan” and “The Holy Trinity & the Law of Three,” alongside teachings from other Wisdom voices. Sustained largely by committed volunteers and donors, the audio work has always been about one thing: making high‑quality contemplative teaching accessible to anyone with ears to hear, regardless of geography. The current digital catalog stands in direct continuity with those early tape sets offered through simple mail‑order, bearing witness that the audio ministry has been one of the Society’s primary offerings since its founding and remains a vital way of sharing this Wisdom stream today. Over time, this section will also become a home for interviews, conversations, and podcasts featuring Cynthia that can be appropriately linked or archived, gathering as much of her recorded voice as possible into one place.

On The Contemplative Society's current store page, you can click the ‘Cynthia Bourgeault’ tab to find a chronological list of her audio and video teachings hosted by The Contemplative Society, reaching back to 1998. While every effort has been made to preserve these recordings, some items offered in earlier years have been lost. For a glimpse into our beginnings, you can also visit an archived version of our 2001 audio store, when we were still mailing cassette tapes to members.
