Course Description

The Contemplative Society encourages a deepening of contemplative prayer based on the Christian Wisdom tradition. It offers a consistent and balanced path for spiritual growth and transformation rooted in prayer, silence, mindful work, and in the 1,500-year-old wisdom of the Benedictine contemplative heritage.Internationally renowned writer, Episcopal priest, modern-day mystic and retreat leader Rev Dr Cynthia Bourgeault is the founding Director, principal teacher and advisor to the Contemplative Society. She passionately promotes the practice of Centering Prayer, and has worked closely with Thomas Keating, Bruno Barnhart, Richard Rohr, as well as many other contemplative teachers and leaders within the Christian tradition as well as other spiritual paths. She divides her time between solitude at her seaside hermitage in Maine, and a demanding schedule travelling globally to teach and spread the recovery of the Christian contemplative and Wisdom path.Holy Isle, where the Christian saint Molaise lived as a hermit for 10 years in the 6th and 7th centuries, is honoured to host the Contemplative Society and Rev Dr Cynthia Bourgeault for this Contemplative Wisdom Retreat.
