About

This event was recorded live online October 7, 2023, hosted by The Contemplative Society. This purchase includes video recordings from a 3.5-hour Zoom retreat featuring two teaching sessions, contemplative practice, and dialogue. In this special online gathering, James Finley invites participants into a compassionate exploration of his latest book, The Healing Path: A Memoir and an Invitation. Drawing on his lifelong integration of contemplative spirituality and psychotherapy, Finley reflects on the universal journey of healing from trauma, discovering inner freedom, and awakening to divine love. Through personal narrative and contemplative reflection, Finley shares how his own path—from early experiences of suffering and loss to a life of spiritual depth and teaching—reveals that our wounds can become sacred openings for transformation. The event includes a talk on key themes from The Healing Path, a contemplative exercise, and a period of question and response. As this is a LIVE recording you may notice some audio variability and background noise. James Finley, Ph.D., is a contemplative teacher, clinical psychologist, and former Trappist monk who studied under Thomas Merton at the Abbey of Gethsemani. He serves as core faculty at the Center for Action and Contemplation, hosts the acclaimed podcast Turning to the Mystics, and is the author of Merton’s Palace of Nowhere, The Contemplative Heart, and The Healing Path: A Memoir and an Invitation.
