About
This retreat was recorded live in 2008 at Sorrento, BC, and revised and re-released in 2014. This purchase includes an MP3 audio download with a total running time of approximately 4 hours and 20 minutes. In this teaching, Cynthia Bourgeault engages with key mystical texts of the Christian tradition, exploring passages that speak of “all things being gathered into Christ” and Christ as “the image of the unseen God.” She asks whether there is a fundamental law or organizing principle embedded in the cosmos and in the hearts of all beings—a principle rooted in Divine Mercy. Cynthia proposes that Jesus, in his risen and earthly being, is the living image of this principle. To embrace Christ is to embrace this divine coherence, the ordering principle that holds all creation together. Drawing on scripture, mystical theology, and the practice of kenosis (self-emptying), Cynthia presents Christ as “a direct arrow into the divine ordering principle,” inviting us to encamp close to this reality where faith and simplicity become as natural as child’s play. Themes include the path of surrender, the unitive vision found in both canonical and non-canonical texts, kenosis and its transformative impact, the Trinity, and the Eucharist as an act of exchange. Cynthia Bourgeault is a modern-day mystic, Episcopal priest, and internationally known retreat leader. She is the author of numerous books, including The Wisdom Jesus and Centering Prayer and Inner Awakening, and is recognized for her pioneering work in integrating the Christian contemplative path with other global streams of wisdom.
