*PLEASE NOTE* A storm off the coast of Cythnia's home led to occasional hiccups in the first half of this event. As this is a live recording, you may notice some audio variability and occasional background noise. “Contemplative Activism in Challenging Times”: An online retreat with Cynthia Bourgeault was recorded on Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon Pacific Time, hosted by The Contemplative Society. This purchase includes a Zoom video recording with a total running time of approximately 2 hours. A playback link will be provided so you can revisit the teaching at your own pace. In this online teaching, Cynthia Bourgeault invites participants into the sacred vocation of becoming “contemplatives with grit” in the midst of intensifying global and planetary upheaval. As political, cultural, ecological, and spiritual systems reel under what many sense to be a thickening pandemic of evil, Cynthia turns to the Christian Wisdom tradition to offer the broader, integrative perspective needed to meet these forces without collapse, complicity, or despair. Drawing on both spiritual and psychological sources, Cynthia explores how a grounded contemplative heart can engage the escalating disintegration of our time as part of a larger evolutionary process rather than as mere chaos or defeat. A central thread of the teaching is her return to Quaker mystic Thomas Kelly and his call to “holy obedience,” a way of life in which the inner voice of Truth ripens into a steady readiness to speak truth to power with courage, humility, and clarity. The Rev. Dr. Cynthia Bourgeault is a modern-day mystic, Episcopal priest, writer, and internationally respected retreat leader in the Christian Wisdom tradition. She is known for her teaching on Centering Prayer, the Wisdom lineage, Fourth Way work, and the path of conscious love as practical ways of embodying a more unified and courage-infused presence in today’s world.
