This retreat was recorded live November 20–23, 2023, at Loon Lake Retreat Centre in Maple Ridge, BC, Canada. How do contemplatives engage the world when forest fires, floods, and political upheaval are happening in our own backyards? How do we stand in contemplative wisdom and remain present to both the beauty and suffering woven into the web of life on this fragile planet? In this retreat, Cynthia Bourgeault and Heather Ruce, joined by members of The Contemplative Society’s board, guide participants in exploring contemplative solidarity through teaching, practice, and dialogue. With an intention of stabilizing ourselves in compassion, discernment, creativity, and spiritual courage, the retreat engages practices including Centering Prayer, lectio divina, chant, movement, silence, and imaginal exercises. Together, these form a pathway for awakening and embodying a more conscious and compassionate presence in the world.
