Teaching by Cynthia Bourgeault
Available as a MP3 download – approx. running time 4 hours, 26 minutes.
The purpose of this teaching is to re-introduce contemplative practices to Christians. Cynthia shows how scripture can be deepened by using techniques that bring together prayer, silence, and the word. One practice is to read scripture as Lectio Divina, for which she describes a deepening four-step process. Another practice to increase the impact of scripture is chanting, especially the Psalms. Cynthia goes into some detail about how a beginner can learn to chant with a sense of comfort and offers some chanting exercises. She also describes how to integrate into daily life these practices of prayer, silence, Lectio Divina, and chanting with the Benedictine practice as an example. Using even a few of these practices in daily life will carry the practitioner deeply into the heart of Christianity.
