Blessings Contemplative Friends,

For those of you in Vancouver, on March 10 and 11 there are two events being hosted by The Thomas Merton Society of Canada and at the Canadian Memorial Centre for Peace. As part of these events, facilitator Doug Christie explores themes of loss and “The Desert Within”

At the end of the month, you are invited to join the Monthly Centering Prayer Group to deepen your Centering Prayer practice, online or in person at the St. Dunstan Parish in Aldergrove B.C.

What does it mean to enter the desert? To seek “the desert within”—that vast open space the Christian mystics experienced at the very ground of the soul where the human person encounters the divine? This retreat will draw upon the image of the desert (long important to both Jewish and Christian religious identities and central to the Christian mystical tradition) to consider what it might mean for us to incorporate silence, stillness, and solitude into our own spiritual practices.

Douglas E. Christie, Ph.D., is Professor of Theological Studies at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

Join us for the next episode of Sacred Earth: Growing Beloved Community where leading spiritual teacher John Philip Newel in conversation with Bishop Marc Andrus and Dr. M. Paloma Pavel shares how Celtic spirituality—listening to the sacred around us and inside of us—can help us heal the earth, overcome our conflicts, and reconnect with ourselves.

25% OFF MP3 SALE!

“Through Holy Week with Mary Magdalene”

Now $29.95 – 25% off from the regular $39.95

In this recording, Cynthia Bourgeault restores Mary Magdalene as a central figure in the Paschal mystery. She models that the transformed human heart bridging the finite and the infinite as eros is surmounted and taken to the place where “love is stronger than death.” This is a spiritual path founded on the redeeming love of Jesus and passed on to the disciples by Mary Magdalene. Through Mary Magdalene’s witnessing and “substituted love,” we come to understand how the human heart is the gateway to the transformational mystery.

This set of talks deserves serious consideration by all Christians interested not only in their own spiritual journey, but also in the future of Christianity as the incarnational faith embodying the way of kenotic love – the way to the cosmic Christ spirit.
