The Contemplative Society invites you to gather with our community and guest teacher David Frenette for this special online event.
Light In Advent:
A Contemplative Quiet Day With David Frenette
Radiance, hope, anticipation . . .
Advent promises a quiet, heartening light.
Nestled within the sheltering darkness of our times is the divine ground of being, the source of an unreasonable joy and unity that embraces the brokenness of this world.
This Advent, come spend time together to listen for joy and hope.

EVENT FORMAT: This virtual, online event includes two contemplative sessions, with a short break in between. Concluding our time together will be an optional period of informal connecting and conversation.
PART I: Mystical Hope in the Light of Advent
Our event opens with an Advent welcome and practice led by TCS members Paula Pryce and Jennifer England. They will guide us into a contemplative meditation and quiet reflection to encourage a deep entry into the mystical hope of Advent.
PART II: Praying in Body, Mind, Heart, and Being with David Frenette
In this 90 minute session with special guest teacher, David Frenette, we will explore the inner depths of contemplative prayer to access unity consciousness. The practice of Heart Intention unites the words of prayer with inner movements of consciousness so that body, mind, heart, and being become integrated on the path of meditation. Instruction in Heart Intention and guided meditations, focusing on the Jesus Prayer, will gently facilitate mystical hope and the experience of unity.
DAVID FRENETTE, is the author of The Path of Centering Prayer: Deepening Your Experience of God, and innovator of the Heart Intention meditation practice. He was a senior teacher in the Centering Prayer movement and a student and friend of Fr. Thomas Keating for 35 years. He co-created, co-led, and lived monastically at a contemplative retreat community for 10 years under Thomas Keating’s guidance. David has an MA in transpersonal counseling psychology, was a trustee of Contemplative Outreach, a founding member of the Integral Institute, and on the faculty of Naropa University. In 2014 he retired from active travel and teaching to live in Portland, Oregon with his wife Donna, where he continues offering long-distance spiritual direction and occasional online courses from his backyard meditation studio.
