Cynthia Bourgeault: e-course on Fr. Thomas Keating's The Secret Embrace

Fr. Thomas Keating’s The Secret Embrace e-course through Spirituality & Practice with Cynthia Bourgeault

This is a brand new course, focusing on the eight poems in Thomas Keating’s The Secret Embrace, his final spiritual legacy to the world, composed the last winter of his life. Cynthia made an initial foray into this material on a Contemplative Outreach international webinar in early May, with over 4000 registered participants, but this is not simply a rehash of the webinar; it’s a completely new pass through the material, set up, in S & P’s signature way, for deeper reflection and practice.

This is particularly well-suited to people looking for rebooted practice and new material available easily in remote locations.  It is entirely online, with one Zoom session scheduled.

Into the Ground of Being - the ongoing quest with Ward Bauman
This retreat has been cancelled due to covid-19 concerns in British Columbia.
We hope to offer it in the Fall online.
Please contact admin@contemplative.org with any questions.

“When you give birth to that which is within yourself, what you bring forth will save you,” Jesus is quoted as saying in the Gospel of Thomas (#70). This retreat is geared to help develop our inner authority or “sovereignty,” as the Gospel of Thomas states. This preeminent spiritual work is at the ore of human development.
Exploring ancient Christian texts we will practice their methods for coming to know the Christ within, that “Word” being spoken, but to which we are usually deaf. All instructions will be geared to this endeavor as we seek to discover those practices that can increase our awareness of our inner treasure. Students will leave with a stronger sense of their own inner domain and its resources.

Ground Luminosity Retreat Garrison Institue, Garrison New York

This silent, Centering Prayer-based retreat will prepare practitioners enter more deeply into the Christian season of Advent, that mysterious liturgical “thin place” where light and darkness, birth and death, heaven and earth, apocalyptic rumblings and tender new birth all draw very close together. The mystically attuned heart can approach this cosmic wellspring—or wormhole— and begin to read here “the signs of the times,” drawing from it both the strength and lucidity to live courageously in a world apparently adrift.

The purpose of this retreat will be to attune our hearts, both individually and collectively. Grounded in the rhythm of the classic Centering Prayer immersion retreat, our time together will include three daily periods of formal meditation, sacred chanting and body prayer, and teaching by Cynthia Bourgeault drawing particularly on Thomas Merton and Rumi, whose respective deaths (on December 10 and December 17) bookend this week and. anchor us in the cosmic heart from which all else flows.

The Rev. Cynthia Bourgeault is an internationally known teacher, writer, and retreat leader with roots in the Christian contemplative tradition and wings in the mystical unity of all sentient beings. A student of Fr. Thomas Keating for more than thirty years, she is the founding director of The Contemplative Society in British Columbia, and of the Aspen Wisdom School in Colorado, and has served since 2013 as one of the core faculty for the Albuquerque-based Center for Action and Contemplation, together with Richard Rohr and James Finley. She is the author of nine books, including her most recent: Eye of the Heart: A Spiritual Journey into the Imaginal Realm published in September 2020.
